ABOUT US

Osman Barrie

Osman came to the United States in 1990 to escape the civil war raging in his home country of Sierra Leone.  He began working at the original Steak'n Egg (the franchise) as a cook in November of 1993, where began working with Joe. Climbing the corporate ladder to Regional Store Manager, Osman was ultimately in charge of eight restaurants - all of them posting substantial gains in profit.  Despite Osman's hard work, the original Steak'n Egg still managed to stumble upon significant financial woes, and Osman decided that it was time to go into business for himself. He then opened the Allentown Road Diner in Suitland, MD in early 1998.

Later that year, Osman and Joe decided to team up and go into business together.  On a handshake and a smile, Osman and Joe's Steak'n Egg Kitchen was born.

Osman's father, two brothers, and two sisters still live in Sierra Leone today.

MENU FAVORITE:  Steak and egg with gravy and mushrooms.

Joe Vamboi

Like Osman, Joe is from Freetown, Sierra Leone.  He originally came to the United States for a vacation, but when the war in Sierra Leone started, he decided to stay here.  He started work as a cook at the old Steak'n Egg franchise (where he met Osman) - and then bought the Wisconsin Ave. building when the franchise collapsed.  Shortly afterwards, Joe asked Osman to come work with him at the Wisconsin Ave. location.

So... on a handshake and a smile, two friends from Africa created an American legend - Osman and Joe's Steak'n Egg kitchen.

Joe lives in the area with his wife and family.

Hopes and Dreams: to be an Actor/Director

Interesting tidbit: used to be an altar boy and a boy scout. Made Tenderfoot but "didn't do s**t except go camping."  He also has a t-shirt with his face on it - check out the store!
