Portugal national team was founded in 1914, and Nike created the centennial football shirt to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the national team.
Nike and the Portuguese Football Federation(FPF) jointly announced the extension of their long-term partnership to 2024 in 2017. In the past two decades, Nike has been providing training kits, shirts and other related football products for the teams governed by the FPF, including 11-a-side football teams, futsal teams and beach soccer teams. Besides, the company also provides football shirts for women’s football teams.
“We are pleased to extend the partnership with the Portuguese Football Federation. Nike will continue to provide the most innovative football equipment. We look forward to the successful cooperation between both sides.” said Bert Hoyt, the Vice President of Nike.
Fernando Gomes, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, said:“The FPF has been working with Nike for 20 years. Since then, our national team has been on the highest stage of world football ten times, including the qualifiers of the 2018 FIFA World Cup next summer.” “In these two decades, the Portugal national team won UEFA Euro 2016 and our U-17 national team won two titles of UEFA European championship. In addition, the women’s football team also entered the finals of European Football Championship for the first time this year.”
The Portugal 2014 World Cup Away Shirt is simple bur modern. The shirt is predominately white with blue collar and cuffs. Blue Nike Swoosh is printed on the right for easy brand recognition while the team badge is shown on the left. “1914” and “2014” are printed, too, showing the long history of the national team and commemorating this meaningful event.
The new shorts are blue, simple and classic. Tailoring makes the new shorts more figure-flattering and more comfortable. There are laser-cut holes on the shorts to help players maintain body temperature. The socks are also white.
“The new away jersey has much impressed me. The color makes the jersey very stylish. I can’t wait to put it on.” said the captain Cristiano Ronaldo, “It is a glory to wear the national team jersey on behalf of the country. I believe that the brand new jersey will give the team confidence to fight for the country.”
Nike’s innovative Dri-FIT technology can absorb sweat from skin to keep players during 90 minutes, which is of great importance for players. The comfortable football kit helps them focus on games and play well.
Nike shirts, shorts and socks are all made from recycled polyester, reducing the impact on environment. Furthermore, each kit uses 18 plastic bottles. These recycled bottles can cover more than 2800 standard football stadiums.
“We want to give the new away jersey a classic and different look, reflecting the gorgeous and wise football style of Portugal national team.” said Martin Lotti, a creative director of Nike who is a major creative force at the company and currently responsible for the creative direction of all of 11 Nike categories, from running to basketball.
